Member Update 28 April 2020

Greetings All,

When I first migrated to Australia I went to the footy and I didn’t understand the billboard that said, “Report Anti-Social Behaviour”.  I would have been dobbing in several of my meek engineer-nerd friends.  Now it seems that we have to “Report Social Behaviour”.

All joking aside, a reduction in social gathering and social distancing when in public places has helped minimise the spread of COVID-19.  Before we maintained our minimum social distance of 1.5m the crane industry was using radios to communicate between doggers and crane operators.  Whether the requirement for the use of radios was distance, visibility, or too much other noise on site there is a safe way of communicating with radios.  Alice Edwards tells us how to communicate clearly when using radios and what type of radios are preferred by industry when performing lifts safely.  Please check out the CICA YouTube channel for the latest video.  John Humphries recently also created Safety Bulletin #261 on the use of 2-way radios that is a great resource to print and share with your team.

Also, it’s not too late to enter in the CICA Colouring Competition.  Entries can be received until the end of April.  If you would like more information please check out the CICA website here.

We have nearly survived a complete month of self-isolation!!  ANZAC Day would have been unusual for many of you who take the time to remember the fallen with a dawn service. I have no doubt that you were able to adapt and still honour the ANZACs.

Have a good week!

Stay safe,

Brandon
